HomeMy WebLinkAboutA002 - Council Action Form dated June 22, 2004 Item # 37 Date June 22, 2004 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: REVISION OF PARKING REGULATIONS ON ONTARIO STREET BACKGROUND: The city is improving Ontario Street west of North Dakota Avenue through the capital improvement project process this summer. As part of this project, pavement marking revisions will be needed east of North Dakota Avenue. The revisions are needed to allow three travel lanes, which will line up with the northern three lanes that will be marked west of North Dakota Avenue. These pavement marking revisions will not allow parking on the north side of Ontario Street from North Dakota Avenue to a point 150 feet west of Arizona Avenue. A review of the block determined there are eight property owners on this street that would be directly impacted if parking were prohibited. While the loss of this parking would be unfortunate for these property owners, it is important to recall that Ontario Street was built to its existing width with the understanding that the use of this area as a travel lane would become necessary. Attendees, at two public meetings regarding the Ontario Street project, were advised that the parking in this area would have to be removed. Staff also sent letters to the property owners. Only one property owner voiced any objection. Parking is available on other area streets. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Approve an ordinance to prohibit parking on the north side of Ontario Street from North Dakota Avenue to a point 150 feet west of Arizona Avenue. 2. Take no action and do not change parking restrictions on Ontario Street thus requiring a change in the Ontario Street plans to redesign the North Dakota Avenue and Ontario Street intersection. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt alternative number one above and approve an ordinance to prohibit parking on the north side of Ontario Street from North Dakota Avenue to a point 150 feet west of Arizona Avenue.
