TO: Joe Pietruszynski, GIS Coordinator/Planner
FROM: John R. Klaus, City Attorney
DATE: February 3, 2004
SUBJECT: Flood Plain Zoning Amendments
With this is the ordinance to make the proposed amendments to the flood plain zoning regulations.
As we discussed, this amendment ordinance must be processed through the Planning and Zoning
Commission to the City Council in the same manner as any other zoning ordinance.
The same notice of hearing is required as for any zoning ordinance.
The big difference from other zoning ordinances is the requirement of Section 45513.276 that the
proposed amending ordinance have the approval of the Iowa Environmental Protection Commission
prior to adoption by the Ames City Council.
It is my understanding that you will mail the ordinance to Joe Carpucci at the IDNR with the specific
request that the ordinance receive the required approval.
