HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated October 28, 2003 p 0 F Item # Ep, a Date: October 28, 2003 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: REVISION OF PARKING REGULATIONS ON MARYLAND STREET BACKGROUND: Maryland Street was recently extended westward from California Avenue. At this time, there is a no parking ordinance for the south side of Maryland Street from California Avenue to Nebraska Avenue. The width of California Avenue requires parking be prohibited on one side of the street in accordance with City of Ames practice. It would be consistent with our normal practice to extend the no parking ordinance on Maryland Street from California Avenue westward. These "No Parking" signs would facilitate the maneuvering of snowplows, emergency vehicles, and garbage trucks on this residential street. Therefore, staff recommends extending the length of this no parking ordinance. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Direct the City Attorney to draft a no parking ordinance to extend the no parking ordinance on Maryland Street from California Avenue westward. 2. Do nothing, which would allow parking on both sides of Maryland Street west of California Avenue. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is recommended by the City Manager that the City Council direct the City Attorney to draft a no parking ordinance to extend the no parking ordinance on Maryland Street from California Avenue westward. COUNCIL ACTION: COUNCIL ACTION SUMMARY Meeting Date: October 28, 2003 Agenda Item #: 7 SUBJECT: Revision to Parking Regulations on Maryland Street ACTION TAKEN: Directed the City Attorney to draft an ordinance extending the "no parking ordinance" on Maryland Street from California Avenue westward.
