HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Cover memo for proposed ordinance 3`f Memo City Clerk's Office Caring People Quality Programs Exceptional Service TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Suzanne Thompson, City Clerk's Office DATE: October 10, 2003 SUBJECT: Ordinance Revising Liability Insurance Requirements for Various City Permits A review of various City permits revealed inconsistency in the insurance requirements. Staff worked with the Risk Manager to identify the sections of the Municipal Code that need to be updated, and if approved, will update the corresponding application forms. The following is a summary of the proposed revisions: 1) Section 10.12-Garbage Haulers-Remove the last sentence about the insurance running concurrently; this was approved by City Council on June 25, 2002. 2) Section 26.66 - Road Races - Replace the current insurance wording with the General Insurance Wording as shown below, except change the amount to $1,000,000. 3) Section 27.6 - Tree Surgeon's - Replace (1) with the General Insurance Wording below. (2) should remain in the Code (referring to Automobile Liability). 4) Section 22.14(5)-Vending-Replace the existing paragraph with the General Insurance Wording below. 5) Section 17.6-Fireworks-Add the General Insurance Wording(below);currently there are no insurance requirements. 6) Section 22.3(3)(a) and (4) - Encroachments - Remove the wording about filing a bond. Include the General Insurance Wording below. 7) Section 22.4 - Temporary Obstruction Permits - Move the insurance requirements from 22.4(3)(h) to 22.4(3) and add the General Insurance Wording below. General Insurance Wording: "An insurance certificate naming the City of Ames, its officers, and employees as an additional insured with comprehensive general liability limits in the amount of$500,000 combined single limit shall be in full force and effect during the life of the permit. The coverage shall be at least as broad as the ISO Form Number CG0001 covering commercial general liability written on an occurrence basis only. A copy of the current insurance certificate shall be maintained on file with the City Clerk." The attached Ordinance revises the applicable sections. /dry Attachment
