RE: Annexation and Rezoning of Property located at 3915 Mortensen Road
Ames Middle School
Dear Mr. Mayor and City Council Members,
On behalf of the Ames Community School District I am requesting consideration by the City Council to
waive the requirement for three readings at City Council meetings related to the request for rezoning a 39-
acre portion of the Ames Middle School property. The request for rezoning is concurrent with a request
for annexation of this property and has been made as a means to establish zoning consistent with the
remainder of the Ames Middle School site.
The Ames Planning and Zoning Commission considered the annexation and rezoning request at the
Commission meeting on August 20. The request for voluntary annexation was approved by the
Commission and received no public comment.
Our understanding is that a decision to waive the requirement for three readings of the rezoning action
would allow concurrent action on the voluntary annexation and rezoning request at the City Council
meeting on September 23.
On behalf of the Ames Community School District I appreciate your consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
Steve Carter
