COUNCIL ACTION FORM
SUBJECT: REVISION OF PARKING REGULATIONS ON BELL AVENUE AND
FORD STREET
BACKGROUND:
While updating traffic sign inventory records staff noted parking signs on Bell Avenue
and Ford Street that are not covered by city ordinances. Therefore staff is submitting
this Council Action Form in an effort to correct the situation.
Existing signs on Bell Avenue currently prohibit parking from the centerline of Ford
Street to a point 260 feet south of Ford Street on the west side of the street and to a
point 550 feet south of Ford Street on the east side of the street. Parking is currently
prohibited by signs on both sides of Ford Street from the centerline of Bell Avenue west
to a point 200 feet west on the north side and to a point 375 feet west on the south side.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Direct the City Attorney to develop an ordinance to prohibit parking on Bell
Avenue from the centerline of Ford Street to a point 260 feet south of Ford Street on the
west side of the street and to a point 550 feet south of Ford Street on the east side of
the street; and on Ford Street from the centerline of Bell Avenue to a point 200 feet west
of Bell Avenue on the north side and to a point 375 feet west of Bell Avenue on the
south side.
2. Do nothing which would result in staff removing the signs on the north side of
Ford Street, except within the intersection with Bell Avenue and within 35 feet of any
driveway, and on the south side of Ford Street, except within the intersection of Bell
Avenue and within 35 feet of any driveway. Signs would have to be posted in
accordance with an existing ordinance that prohibits parking on the south side of Ford
Street within 100 feet of 2730 Ford Street which would require relocating the existing
signs on the south side of Ford Street from a point 375 feet west of Ford Street to a
point 475 feet west of Ford Street. Signs would have to be posted on the south side of
Ford Street 100 feet east of the property line of 2730 Ford Street. No parking signs on
Bell Avenue would have to be removed except within the intersection of Ford Street and
within 35 feet of any driveway.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is recommended by the City Manager that the City Council accept alternative number
one, thereby directing the City Attorney to develop an ordinance to prohibit parking on
Bell Avenue from the centerline of Ford Street to a point 260 feet south of Ford Street
on the west side of the street and to a point 550 feet south of Ford Street on the east
side of the street; and on Ford Street from the centerline of Bell Avenue to a point 200
feet west of Bell Avenue on the north side and to a point 375 feet west of Bell Avenue
on the south side.
