COUNCIL ACTION FORM
SUBJECT: REVISION OF PARKING REGULATIONS ON ROXBORO DRIVE
BACKGROUND:
Recently Roxboro Drive was extended from a point 480 feet west of Chilton Avenue,
westward and northward to Harrison Road. Currently there is a no parking ordinance
for the south side of Roxboro Drive from a point 480 feet west of Chilton Avenue, east to
Chilton Avenue. The width of Roxboro Drive requires parking be prohibited on one side
of the street in accordance with common practice in Ames.
It would be consistent with our normal practices to extend the no parking ordinance on
Roxboro Drive from a point 480 feet west of Chilton Avenue westward and northward to
Harrison Road on the south and west sides of the street. This regulation would facilitate
the maneuvering of snowplows, emergency vehicles, and trash trucks on this residential
street.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Direct the City Attorney to draft an ordinance extending the no parking ordinance
on Roxboro Drive from a point 480 feet west of Chilton Avenue westward and northward
to Harrison Road on the south and west sides of the street.
2. Do nothing, which would allow parking on both sides of Roxboro Drive from a
point 480 feet west of Chilton Avenue westward and northward to Harrison Road.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Direct the City Attorney to draft an ordinance extending the no parking ordinance on
Roxboro Drive from a point 480 feet west of Chilton Avenue westward and northward to
Harrison Road on the south and west sides of the street.
