COUNCIL ACTION FORM
SUBJECT: REVISION OF PARKING REGULATIONS ON HYDE AVENUE
BACKGROUND:
City staff was contacted by a prospective buyer of a property on Hyde Avenue to see if
parking could be allowed on the west side of Hyde Avenue. The prospective buyer was
asked to pass a petition in the neighborhood to see if the existing homeowners would
be agreeable to the change. A petition supporting the change was completed and
signed by 80% of the owners on the street.
Parking was originally restricted on both sides of the street because of traffic projections
made for the street. Staff believes these restrictions could be removed on the west side
of the street without compromising safety. The street is 31 feet wide. Allowing 9 feet for
parking on the west side of the street still leaves two eleven-foot wide lanes for moving
traffic.
Contact was made with the Parks & Recreation Department since there is a park on the
street. Parks & Recreation staff is not opposed to the proposed change.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Direct the City Attorney to develop an ordinance to remove the existing no
parking restrictions on the west side of Hyde Avenue.
2. Do nothing and leave parking restrictions on both sides of Hyde Avenue.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Direct the City Attorney to develop an ordinance to remove the existing no parking
restrictions on the west side of Hyde Avenue.
