AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY
OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SUBSECTION 26.39(24) AND
ENACTING A NEW SUBSECTION 26.39(24) FOR THE PURPOSE OF
REVISING THE SPEED LIMITS ON DAYTON AVENUE; REPEALING
ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN
CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; PROVIDING A
PENALTY; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ENACTED,by the City Council for the City of Ames,Iowa,that:
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames,Iowa shall be and the same is hereby amended by
repealing subsection 26.39(24)and enacting a new subsection 26.39(24)to state as follows:
"(24) DAYTON AVENUE. Forty-five miles per hour from the south end north to the north city
limits except for:
a) a segment of the street that is between a point 1,000 feet north and a point 1,000
feet south of the East Lincoln Way intersection,for which the speed limit shall be thirty-five miles
per hour;and
b) a segment of the street from the point 1000 feet north of the East Lincoln Way
intersection to the East 13'h Street intersection, for which the speed limit shall be forty miles per
hour."
Section Two. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a simple misdemeanor punishable
by a fine not to exceed$500 and by imprisonment not to exceed thirty days.
Section Three. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent
of such conflict,if any.
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as
required by law.
