COUNCIL ACTION FORM
SUBJECT: PARKING PROHIBITIONS FOR SUNCREST SECOND SUBDIVISION
BACKGROUND:
During design of Suncrest Second Subdivision, located just south of Oakwood Road,
the street widths were set at 26' wide. With this street width and the residential land
uses expected in the development, prohibition of parking on one side of all streets is
appropriate. These parking prohibitions will allow safe movement of vehicles using the
development streets, especially emergency vehicles.
This parking prohibition plan does conform to the subdivision regulations. The side of
the street where the parking prohibition was designated was selected to minimize
impact to the adjacent properties. Please note the attached map. The parking
restriction on the west side of White Oak Drive has previously been designated.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Direct the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance to prohibit parking on the north
side of Suncrest Drive and Sundown Drive from White Oak Drive to Cedar Lane.
2. Reject the concept of parking prohibitions and allow parking on both sides of all
streets. This proposal would leave only 10' for two-way vehicle passage if both sides
had parked vehicles.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt alternative
number one thereby directing the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance to prohibit
parking on the north side of Suncrest Drive and Sundown Drive from White Oak Drive to
Cedar Lane.
