HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated June 25, 2002 r 2 Item # 3 ( a,• Date: June 25, 2002 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: PARKING PROHIBITIONS FOR SOUTH GATEWAY SUBDIVISION BACKGROUND: During design of the South Gateway Development, located at the northwest corner of SE 16th Street and South Dayton Avenue, the street widths were set at 31' wide. With this street width and the commercial/industrial land uses expected in the development, prohibition of parking on both sides of all streets is appropriate. These parking prohibitions will allow safe movement of trucks and autos using the development streets. This parking prohibition plan does conform to the subdivision regulations. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Direct the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance to prohibit parking on both sides of Issac Newton Drive from SE 161h Street to rerouted South Dayton Avenue; on re- routed South Dayton Avenue from SE 16th Street north to its connection with South Dayton Avenue; on SE 9th Street from rerouted South Dayton Avenue northwest 841' to the west line of South Gateway Subdivision. 2. Direct the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance to prohibit parking on one side of all streets in South Gateway Subdivision. This measure will compromise vehicle access through the development, as well as to area businesses. 3. Reject the concept of parking prohibitions and allow parking on both sides of all streets. This proposal would leave only 12' for two-way vehicle passage if both sides had parked vehicles. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt alternative number one thereby directing the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance to prohibit parking on both sides of Issac Newton Drive from SE 16th Street to rerouted South Dayton Avenue; on re-routed South Dayton Avenue from SE 16th Street north to its connection with South Dayton Avenue, on SE 9th Street from rerouted South Dayton Avenue northwest 841' to the west line of South Gateway Subdivision.
