HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amendment to Plumbing Code to Require a Plumbing Permit for Repairs ORDINANCE NO. 3663 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA,BY REPEALING SUBSECTION 21.201(1)AND RE-ENACTING THAT SUBSECTION REVISED FOR THE PURPOSE OF REQUIRING A PLUMBING PERMIT FOR ANY REPAIR MADE TO THE PLUMBING SYSTEM OF A BUILDING;REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT;AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE BE IT ORDAINED,by the City Council for the City of Ames,Iowa: Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa is hereby amended by repealing subsection 21.201(1)and re-enacting the same revised to read as follows: "(1)Permit Required. It shall be unlawful for any person,except as hereinafter provided,to install, extend,make a connection to or add to the plumbing system of a building, or to a private sanitary sewer,or to a private water supply system,without first obtaining a plumbing permit from the City plumbing inspector. Provided, however, that a plumbing permit is not required for repair or replacement of: water faucets;plumbing fixtures;water lines or fittings on the discharge side of a water meter;waste and vent pipes or fittings located above the building drain;and,release of stopped drains;so long as there is no change of any kind or degree from the location or configuration of any of the said items. It shall be unlawful to conceal or bury any of the items of work listed above, whether done with or without a plumbing permit,without first observing and testing the work in such manner as to be certain that the work will not leak,and that the materials used are adequate to prevent failure of the plumbing system." Section Two. Any and all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict,if any. Section Three. Violation of this ordinance shall be a municipal infraction punishable by a penalty of$500 for a first violation,and$750 for each repeat violation. Section Four.
