HomeMy WebLinkAboutA004 - Council Action Form dated February 12, 2002 S T ITEM # DATE 02/12/02 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: MOTION TO APPROVE THE REZONING OF PROPERTY, LOCATED IN THE NORTHWESTERN PORTION OF THE BLOOMINGTON HEIGHTS WEST SUBDIVISION FROM RESIDENTIAL MEDIUM DENSITY (RM) TO RESIDENTIAL LOW DENSITY (RL) BACKGROUND: City Council Initiation of Rezoning. On December 11, 2001, the City Council followed the December 5�', 2001 recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission and took action to initiate the rezoning of a portion of property located in the northwestern portion of Bloomington Heights West Subdivision from Residential Medium Density (RM) to Residential Low Density (RL). (See the attached legal description and map of the rezoning proposal.) Land Use Policy Plan (LUPP) Goals and Policies. The City Council's action to initiate this rezoning is consistent with the goals and policies of the Land Use Policy Plan and the Future Land Use Policy Plan Map. The Land Use Policy Plan Map designates the subject area as Residential Low Density (RL). RECOMMENDATION OF THE PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION: The Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed this rezoning proposal at their meeting of January 16, 2002 and approval was recommended. ALTERNATIVES: 1. The City Council can approve the rezoning of property located in the northwestern portion of the Bloomington Heights West Subdivision from Residential Medium Density (RM) to Residential Low Density (RL). 2. The City Council can deny the rezoning of property located in the northwestern portion of the Bloomington Heights West Subdivision from Residential Medium Density (RM) to Residential Low Density (RL). 3. Action on this issue can be postponed and referred back to City staff for additional information. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is recommended that Alternative #1 be adopted. This is a recommendation to rezone property located in the northwestern portion of the Bloomington Heights West Subdivision from Residential Medium Density (RM) to Residential Low Density (RL). Rezoning Legal Description The following described real estate, generally decribed as North of Bloomington Road and East of the Union Pacific railroad tracks, is to be rezoned from Residential Medium Density (RM) to Residential Low Density (RL).
