HomeMy WebLinkAboutA002 - Memo from City Clerk, need for Council approval Diane R Voss To: sdemoss@city.ames.ia.us; kthompson@city.ames.ia.us 02/28/2002 09:48 AM Subject: Road Races--Council Approval of Street Closures As you know, the Code states, under Section 26.66, that a roadway may be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic for the duration of the race; thus City Council action is not necessary. In checking with Scott Logan, he advised that Steve Schainker prefers for the very large road races (e.g., Midnight Madness)and new requests (e.g. the APBA race)to go to City Council if street closures are necessary. Mr. Logan's rationale is that we are not familiar with how the races that have not previously been held will be handled -- how well organized they are, if adequate volunteers/workers are present to move barricades, etc. Per Scott Logan, the APBA race does need to go to Council for approval of street closures. Please advise Officer Shelton and place it on the March 26th agenda. Thank you. •
