This is to let you know before I call him back. The statutory time-line for reprecincting is stated in section 49.7 Code of Iowa. The City Council is to make the changes in precincts "... as soon as possible after the redistricting of congressional and legislative districts become law.", but"... not later than sixty daysafter the ...legislative districts become law , or September 1 of the year immediately following each year in which the federal decennial census is taken, whichever is later.". So, Seprtember 1, 2001 is thae satutory dealine for completion of reprecincting. If the City Council fails to make that deadline, The Iowa Secretary of State is required to determine the new precincts and assess the costs of doing so tho the City. The new prcincts are: "... effective on January 15 of the second year following the year in which the census was taken ...". So, the new precincts will not be in effect for the November 2001 election or any other election occurring before January 15, 2002. 5/3/2001 Page 1 of 2 Diane Voss From: John Klaus <klaus@city.ames.ia.us> To: <voss@city.ames.ia.us> Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2001 4:13 PM Subject: Fw: Reprecincting ----- Original Message----- From: "John Klaus" <klaus o,city.ames.ia.us> To: "Herman Quirmbach" <hcgbach m,ames.net> Cc: "Ted Tedesco" <Tedjoanie@aol.com>; "Steve Goodhue" <st.goodhue a isunet.net>; "Sharon Wirth" <sharonwirth yahoo.com>; "Russ Cross" <russcross@financial.wellsfargo.com>; "Judie Hoffman" <judiehoffman@yahoo.com>; "Ann Campbell' <bobanncamp@aol.com>; "Steve Schainker" <schainker(@city.ames.ia.us> Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2001 11:44 AM Subject: Re: Reprecincting > ----- Original Message ----- >From: "Herman Quirmbach" <hcqbach=,ames.net> >To: "John Klaus" <klaus@city.ames.ia.us> > Cc: "Ted Tedesco" <Tedjoanie@aol.com>; "Steve Goodhue" ><st goodhue ,isunet.net>; "Sharon Wirth" <sharonwirth yahoo.com>; "Russ > Cross" <russcross@financial.wellsfar og com>; "Judie Hoffinan" ><judiehoffman@yahoo.com>; "Ann Campbell' <bobanncamp a@aol.com>; "Steve > Schainker" <schainker cr,city.ames.ia.us> > Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2001 10:19 AM > Subject: Re: Reprecincting >>>John Klaus wrote: >>>The statutory time-line for reprecincting is stated in section 49.7 >>>Code of Iowa.
