AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF
AMES, IOWA, BY ENACTING A NEW SUBSECTION 5.223(3) FOR THE
PURPOSE OF ALLOWING GREATER USE OF WALL SIGNS;REPEALING
ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AND
ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ENACTED,by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa,that:
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be and the same is hereby amended by
enacting a new Subsection 5.223(3)as follows:
"(3) Size Regulations. The size regulations of Section 5.220 notwithstanding,there shall be allowed,
with respect to each building,subject to applicable zoning regulations,one permanent wall sign that
is not larger than sixty-four(64)square feet,or which does not occupy more than ten percent(10%)
of the area of the wall to which it is affixed,whichever is smaller,for each of the building's sides that
parallel a public street, if the wall sign is not internally lighted."
Section Two. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a municipal infraction punishable
as set out in Section 5.501 of the Municipal Code of the City of.Ames, Iowa.
Section Three. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of
such conflict, if any.
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as
required by law.
