HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Revising Voting Precinct Boundaries to include Newly Annexed Property ORDINANCE NO. 3617 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA,BY REPEALING SUBSECTIONS 6.8(3),6.9(4),6.9(5),6.10(1), 6.10(4)and 6.14 AND ENACTING NEW SUBSECTIONS 6.8(3),6.9(4),6.9(5), 6.10(1), 6.10(4), and 6.14 FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVISING THE BOUNDARIES FOR SOME PRECINCTS TO INCLUDE NEWLY ANNEXED PROPERTY; REPEALING ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; PROVIDING A PENALTY;AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ENACTED,by the City Council for the City of Ames,Iowa,that: Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be and the same is hereby amended by repealing Subsections 6.8(3),6.9(4),6.9(5),6.10(1),6.10(4),and 6.14 and enacting new Subsections as follows: "Sec. 6.8 FIRST WARD VOTING PRECINCTS. The First Ward is divided into voting precincts as follows: (3) First Ward, Precinct No. 3 consists of that part of the First Ward which lies generally to the eastward side of a line of demarcation described as beginning at a point north on Dayton Avenue at a point of intersection with the corporate limits of the city on the east side;then south along the corporate limits to a point where the corporate limits intersect with I3th Street;then west along the centerline of Thirteenth Street, and the corporate limits of the city, to Glendale Avenue;then north along the centerline of Glendale Avenue to Sixteenth Street;then west along the centerline of Sixteenth Street to Duff Avenue; then south along the centerline of Duff Avenue to Seventh Street;then west along the centerline of Seventh Street to Grand Avenue;then south along the centerline of Grand Avenue to Lincoln Way;then east along the centerline of Lincoln Way to an abandoned railroad right-of-way;then south along the centerline of said abandoned railroad right-of- way to South Fourth Street; then east along the centerline of South Fourth Street to Washington Avenue,then north along the centerline of Washington Avenue to South Third Street;then east along the centerline of South Third Street to South Kellogg Avenue;then north along the centerline of South Kellogg Avenue to South Second Street; then east along the centerline of South Second Street to South Duff Avenue;then north along the centerline of South Duff Avenue to Lincoln Way;then east along the centerline of Lincoln Way to South Dayton Avenue; then south along the centerline of South Dayton Avenue,and the corporate limits of the city,to the southernmost extent of the corporate limits of the city; then proceeding along the easterly corporate limits of the city to the point of beginning. Sec.6.9. SECOND WARD VOTING PRECINCTS. The Second Ward is divided into voting precincts as follows: (4) Second Ward,Precinct No.4 consists of that part of the Second Ward bounded by a line described as beginning at a point on Dawes Drive that intersects with the north corporate limits of the city;then south along the centerline of Dawes Drive to Adams Street;then west along the centerline of Adams Street to Calhoun Avenue; then south along the centerline of Calhoun Avenue to Top-O-Hollow Road;then west along the centerline of Top-O-Hollow Road to Hoover Avenue;then south along the centerline of Hoover Avenue to Twenty-Fourth Street;then east along the centerline of Twenty-Fourth Street to Northwestern Avenue;then south along the centerline of Northwestern Avenue to Twentieth Street;then west along the centerline of Twentieth Street to the Union Pacific railroad tracks,then along the centerline of the Union Pacific railroad right-of-way to the northern boundary of the Somerset Subdivision,First Addition;then west along the northern boundary of the said line of the Somerset Subdivision,First Addition to the centerline of George Washington Carver Avenue;then north along thecenterlineof George Washington Carver Avenue to the point where the said centerline of George Washington Carver Avenue intersects with the corporate limits;then easterly along corporate limits to thepoint of beginning(Ord.No.3585,9-12- 00) (5) Second Ward,Precinct No.5 consists of that part of the Second Ward bounded by a line described as beginning at a point where the Union Pacific railroad tracks intersect Twenty- Fourth Street;then south along the centerline of said Union Pacific railroad tracks to Twentieth Street; then west on Twentieth Street to Ridgewood Avenue;then south along the centerline of Ridgewood Avenue to Summit Avenue;then south along the centerline of Summit Avenue to Crescent Street; then south along the centerline of Crescent Street to Thirteenth Street;then west along the centerline of Thirteenth Street to Squaw Creek;then northwest along the centerline of Squaw Creek to a point of intersection with the corporate limits;then north along said corporate limits to Bloomington Road, then east and south along the centerline of George Washington Carver Avenue to the northwest corner'of the Somerset Subdivision, First Addition; then east along the north boundary of the Somerset Subdivision,First Addition to the centerline of the Union Pacific railroad right-of-way; then southeast along the centerline of the railroad right-of-way to the point of beginning„(Ord.No. 3142, Sec. 1, 9-10-91, Ord. No. 3585, 9-12-00) Sec.6.10. THIRD WARD VOTING PRECINCTS. The Third Ward is divided into voting precincts as follows: (1) Third Ward,Precinct No.1 shall consist of that part of the Third Ward bounded by a line described as beginning at that point where the south corporate limits intersect with an abandoned railroad right-of-way;then northeast along the centerline of said abandoned right-of-way to a point of intersection with the centerline of U.S.30;then east along the centerline of U.S. 30 to the electric transmission line along the east line of the Old Orchard Mobile Home Park;then north along said electric transmission line extended across South Sixteenth Street to a point of intersection with the said abandoned railroad right-of-way; then northeast along said right-of-way to Squaw Creek;then north along Squaw Creek to a point of intersection with Lincoln Way;then west along the centerline of Lincoln Way to Beach Avenue;then south along the centerline of Beach Avenue to Greeley Avenue;then along the centerline of Greeley to Pearson Avenue;then along the centerline of Pearson Avenue to Ash Avenue;then south along the centerline of Ash4 00 to Knapp Street; then west along the centerline of Knapp Street to Welch Avenue;then south along the center line of Welch u#tte extending along the east side of the Towers dormitories to Mortenson Parkway;then easterly along the centerline of Mortenson Parkway to Elwood Drive;then south along the centerline of Elwood Drive to the corporate limits; then south along the corporate limits to the point of k M& (4) Third Ward,Precinct No.4 shall consist of that part of the Third Ward bounded by a line described as beginning at a point on Lincoln Way intersecting the west corporate limits south of Lincoln Way; thence north along the city limits;thence east along the city limits;thence south to the centerline of Lincoln Way;thence east along the centerline of Lincoln Way to South Franklin Avenue;then south along the centerline of South Franklin Avenue to Tripp Street;then east along the centerline of Tripp Street to South Wilmoth; then north along the centerline of South Wilmoth to Lettie Street; then east along the centerline of Lettie Street to State Avenue; then south along the centerline of State Avenue to College Creek;then westerly along the centerline of College creek and the corporate limits of the city to the pointwhere the corporate limits intersects with the western line of the Southeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter of Section 8, T83 R24W of the 5th P.M.; then north along the western line of the Southeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter of Section 8, T83 R24W of the 5th P.M. to a point where the said western line of the Southeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter of Section 8, T83 R24W of the 5th P.M.'intersects with College Creek; then westerly along the centerline of College Creek to the point where College Creek intersects with South Dakota Avenue;then south along the centerline of South Dakota Avenue to the corporate limits;then west and north along said corporate limits to the point of beginning. Sec.6.14. ANNEXATIONS. (1) The area annexed by City of Ames Resolution No. 91-174,96-443, and 00-465 shall be in Ward One,Precinct No. 1; (2) The area annexed by City of Ames Resolution Nos.92-270,95-532,97- 476,99-284, 99-396, and I.S.L. 85-001-01 and 85-001-04 shall be in Ward One,Precinct No.3; (3) The area annexed by City of Ames Resolution No. 00-116 shall be in Ward Two,Precinct No.4. (4) The area annexed by City of Ames Resolution No. 91-194,00-317, 00- 388, and 00-389 shall be Ward Three,Precinct No. 1; (5) The area annexed by City of Ames Resolution Nos.93-19,93-292,94-41, 99-397,00-292 and 01-142 shall be Ward Three,Precinct No.4; (6) The area annexed by City of Ames Resolution Nos.92-271, 94-393, 95-333,and 96-15,and I.S.L. 85-001-02 and 85-001-03 shall be Ward Three,Precinct No. 5." Section Two. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict,if any. Section Three.
