ORDINANCE NO. 3610
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF
AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SUBSECTIONS 29.408(4), AND 29.804(2)
AND ENACTING NEW SUBSECTIONS 29.408(4) AND 29.804(2) FOR
PURPOSE OF MAKING TECHNICAL AMENDMENTS TO THE ZONING
CODE; REPEALING ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT;
PROVIDING A PENALTY;AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ENACTED,by the City Council for the City of Ames,Iowa,that:
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be and the same is hereby amended by
repealing Subsections 29.408(4)and 29.804(2)and enacting new subsections 29.408(4)and 29.804(2)as follows:
"Sec.29.408(4) Mechanical Equipment. Mechanical equipment located on the ground,such as
cooling or heating equipment,pumps or generators,shall be substantially screened from the street and
any abutting residential properties by a partially sight obscuring fence and/or shrubs. Such fence
and/or shrubs shall be at least six inches higher than the height of the mechanical equipment.
Mechanical equipment on roofs shall be completely screened from the ground level of any abutting
residentially zoned lot and substantially screened from all other adjacent properties at any level.
Sec.29.804(2) Permitted Uses. The uses permitted in the HOC Zone are set forth in Table
29.804(2)below:

Section Two. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a municipal infraction
punishable as set out in Section 29.1603(7)of this Code.
Section Three. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the
extent of such conflict,if any.
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication
as required by law.
