HomeMy WebLinkAboutA003 - Letter from William and Marilyn Fulkerson, objections OCT Z d a To Ames City Council: 7 2 O CITY CLERK I am writing you regarding the preliminary plat for the Uthe Farms Si bdjuia ffiQ- J0WA request that you do not accept the preliminary plat as it currently stands. My objection is with the location of the intersection of Chilton Drive and G W Carver Avenue on the south side of the subdivision. In the preliminary plat, Chilton Drive intersects with G W Carver Avenue directly behind my property. I believe this is a serious safety concern. I also believe that with the intersection at this point, there will be a negative impact to my property value. This is not consistent with the other access roads into this subdivision along G W Carver/Bloomington Road. I believe there are some safety concerns with this type of intersection. The"traffic line of sight"to the west from this proposed intersection is, in my opinion, minimal at best. This may lead to an increasing potential for an accident at or near my back yard. During inclement weather and with reduced visibility, I believe the potential for a serious incident will increase. I am concerned for the safety of my family, my grandson when he visits and for my neighbors' children from a vehicle swerving to avoid someone pulling onto G W Carver. Instinct for the driver coming from the west will be to swerve to the right...into my and/or our neighbors' yard. Additionally, I believe this creates an"offset"intersection with G W Carver from the south. It reminds me of the current intersection that exists out the north side of North Grand Mall and the south entrance/exit for Wal-Mart. Only this traffic is traveling at or accelerating to a higher rate of speed. With the intersection directly behind my property, I will have headlights shinning into my house at night. If and when I choose to resell, it is my belief, that this will have a negative impact for me personally. During our discussions with P&Z at their meeting of September b, it was recommended by P&Z that the developers consider another alternative for this intersection other than the present location. I am in favor of their recommendation and would hope that the Ames city council will act accordingly. Sincerely, William and Marilyn Fulkerson 3007 Almond Road Ames, IA r 1
