ORDINANCE NO.3587
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA,BY
REPEALING SUBSECTION 29.406(2)AND READOPTING THAT SECTION REVISED FOR
THE PURPOSE OF AMENDING THE ZONING REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO OFF-
STREET PARKING REQUIREMENTS;REPEALING ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS
OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; PROVIDING A
PENALTY;AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ENACTED,by the City Council for the City of Ames,Iowa,that:
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames,Iowa shall be and the same is hereby amended by repealing Subsection
29.406(2)and readopting that subsection revised to state as follows:
"Sec.29.406. OFF-STREET PARKING.
(2) Required Parking Spaces. Off-street parking spaces must be provided in
accordance with the minimum requirements set forth in Table 29.406(2)below,for any new
building constructed and for any new use established.
(a) The off-street parking space requirement for a use not specifically
mentioned herein is the same as required for a use of similar nature.
(b) Whenever a building erected or established after the effective date of
this Section is enlarged in floor area,number of employees,number of dwelling units,seating
capacity or otherwise to create a need for an increase of 10%or more in the number of existing
parking spaces,such spaces shall be provided on the basis of such enlargement or change.
(c) Whenever a building existing prior to the effective date of this Section
is enlarged to the extent of 50%or more in the floor area,said building or use shall then and
thereafter comply with the parking requirements set forth herein.

Section Two. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a municipal infraction
punishable by a penalty of$500 for a person's first violation and a penalty of$750 for each repeat violation.

Section Three. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent
of such conflict,if any.
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as
required by law.
