"Meeting Walls" Are Up and Boxes are In!
"Meeting Walls"have gone up in five locations throughout Ames and the"Meetings-in-a-Box"
are available for checkout.
The walls are eight-feet high triangles which display the current and the proposed zoning maps for
the City of Ames. Next to each wall is a shelf unit which contains copies of each of the current and
proposed zoning regulations so that residents can compare them. There are also comment sheets so that
residents can give the City feedback about the changes.
Planning and Housing Director Brian O'Connell says the walls will serve several purposes.
"These unique displays will help residents gain a better understanding of the zoning maps and how the
regulations will affect them. We hope they will also make note of the meetings that we are holding in
each ward." Fliers with the meeting dates are available in the shelves next to the"Meeting Walls."
The"Meeting Walls"are located on first floor of City Hall, at HyVee West,K-Mart,North Grand
Mall and the Ames Public Library.
Residents may also check out a"Meeting-in-a-Box"from either the Planning and Housing De-
partment, on second floor of City Hall, or from the Reference Desk at the Ames Public Library. The
meeting boxes contain full color copies of the current and proposed zoning maps, along with a 12-minute
video explaining the process and a complete set of current and proposed zoning regulations. O'Connell
explained their unique quality,"We realize that not everyone will be available to attend the ward meetings
and are providing the"Meetings-in-a-Box" so that citizens will have one more opportunity to study the
materials with their family or friends." Boxes may be checked out for one week.
