HomeMy WebLinkAboutA012 - Memo to Council on status of proposed Mechanical Code revisions Fit& Memo i City Manager's Office aring People Quality Programs Exceptional Service TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Bob Kindred, Assistant City Manager 3;4— DATE: October 5, 1999 SUBJECT: Status of Mechanical Code Revisions Several months ago, the City Council responded to a request from the Mechanical Code Board of Appeals and directed staff to draft an ordinance to initiate the licensing of mechanical contractors. Completion of this ordinance has taken longer than we anticipated due to the reasons described in the attached memo from Jeff Pearson. Our present intention is to work through this ordinance draft with the Mechanical Code Board and to bring a recommendation back to you next month. Please call me with any questions. Avz c: Jeff Pearson, Building Official Clint Petersen, Acting Fire Chief John Klaus, City Attorney Members of the Mechanical Code Board of Appeals Memo Fire Department/Inspections Division TO: City Council members FROM: Jeff Pearson /10 Tj DATE: September 28, 1999 SUBJECT: Mechanical Licensing A few months ago the mechanical code board of appeals recommended a plan to initiate licensing for mechanical contractors. The City Council authorized the city attorney to draft an ordinance. The city attorney drafted our ordinance, which was quite different from what the mechanical board recommended. I agreed to try to mix the draft language with the mechanical boards request and report back to Mr. Klaus. Unfortunately, this fell at a very inopportune time when our office was stretched to the limit because of the amount of workload and the inspection division being short on staff. I will be working on this proposal within the next several weeks.
