HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Limiting appointments to Boards and Commission to citizens within city limits ORDINANCE NO. 3511 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA,BY ENACTMENT OF SECTION 2.10 FOR THE PURPOSE OF LIMITING APPOINTMENTS TO BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS OF THE CITY TO ONLY THOSE PERSONS WHO RESIDE IN THE CITY, REPEALING ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ENACTED,by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa, that: Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be and the same is hereby amended by enacting, as Section 2.10, the following: "See. 2.10. APPOINTMENTS TO ADMINISTRATIVE AGENCIES, BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS (1) No person shall hereafter be appointed or reappointed to any administrative agency, board or commission of the city unless that person is a resident of the city of Ames. (2) The foregoing notwithstanding,if an appointment of a non-resident of the city is required by state law; or, if the council fords that, after due diligence, the only person found qualified, ready, willing, and able to serve in a certain position is a non-resident of the city, and residency is not required by law or a more specific ordinance, the city council may approve the appointment or reappointment of that person." Section Two. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict, if any. Section Three.
