The Honorable Ted Tedesco, Mayor
and Members of the City Council
of the City of Ames, Iowa
Re: Raising Fines for Municipal Infractions
Dear Mayor Tedesco and Council Members:
In the last session of the General Assembly, H.F. 2472 was passed to increase the amount of the fine
allowable for Municipal Infractions to $500.00 for a first offense and $750.00 for a second or
subsequent offense.
It would be appropriate now to amend the City Code, Section 1.9, to increase the amounts stated in
the current fine schedule, which is:
$ 30.00 First Offense
$100.00 Second Offense
$200.00 Third Offense
City staff members involved in enforcing regulations will be giving me their comments and suggestions
on the appropriate fine amount for various infractions. Your comments and suggestions would also
be appreciated.
It is hoped that a proposed revision of fine amounts can be submitted to the City Council in June.
Yours truly,
1--
John R. Kla s
City Attorney
