Dear Council Members, CITY OF AGES, IOLP,_,_.
We are the local business persons who have constructed and own the facility that is being leased to VisionAire
Corporation. As a group we believe that the address for this facility is an important concern for VisionAire and we
would like to express our support for their position in the hopes that the recent decision of the Council might be
revised.
Many corporations include their address as a part of their corporate identity and place a high value on their identity
and image of impact on their effectiveness in the marketplace. VisionAire subscribes to this philosophy and believes
that, while the address has very little importance to its business relationships within our city, the farther you get from
Ames, the larger the impact. Nationally and internationally it is believed by VisionAire to be significant enough that
Jim Rice personally asked that application be made for the address One VisionAire Place, currently Aviation Road.
We would like you to reconsider this request for the following reasons:
• The road off South Riverside exists today only for the existence of the VisionAire
facility. It is likely that only the current facility, expanded VisionAire facilities,
compatible and related businesses and/or businesses that would not object to
location on VisionAire Place will occupy the land served by this road. In fact,it
is quite likely that only VisionAire operations will ever occupy this land.
• We understand that VisionAire is now considering a doubling and even a tripling
of its current capacity in order to meet anticipated demand. Ames is the likely
location of the doubling decision but the jury is still out on where a tripling might
take place. It is our belief that if a site in Israel becomes available in the near
future,Jim Rice would lean strongly toward that alternative. We would like to be
in the best position possible when that decision is made so that Ames continues
to be an alternative.
• We also understand that VisionAire is currently evaluating the optimum location
for a mid-west service center. While Iowa sales tax is a decision factor,we would
point out that Jim Rice has delegated their sales tax efforts to other VisionAire
employees but personally initiated the request for the address One VisionAire
Place.
• We recognize that somewhat of a precedent would be set in approving this request but we believe
that there is no significant downside to that precedent.
We hope you will reconsider the street naming request and extend the Ames vote of support and friendship for
VisionAire and the Vantage L.L.C.
Sincerely,
TENANT-DEVELOPER
