HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated April 28, 1998 Item # ✓ / Date: April 28, 1998 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: PARKING PROHIBITIONS FOR THE BENTWOOD SUBDIVISION, 3RD ADDITION BACKGROUND: During the review of the Bentwood Subdivision 3rd Addition plat, staff indicated to developers, H & F Partnership, that parking prohibitions should be designated along one side of the residential streets within the subdivision. The two streets involved are Cervantes Drive and Wilder Boulevard. This measure is desired to provide a safe street width for the passage of traffic and emergency vehicles. Currently, parking is prohibited on the north and east sides of existing streets within the Bentwood Subdivision 1 st and 2nd Addition. Staff believes that parking prohibitions should be designated on these streets with widths of 27'. With this street width, parking should be prohibited on one side to accommodate a two-way traffic flow. If parking were allowed on both sides of the street, the available street width for traffic would be reduced to 15', or one lane of travel. This would not only create a hazardous situation for traffic, but also would restrict access by emergency vehicles. The developers, H & F Partnership, have requested that the parking prohibitions be designated along the north and east sides of the two residential streets (i.e, Cervantes Drive and Wilder Boulevard). Staff concurs with this measure, since the parking prohibitions along other existing streets in the subdivision are on the same side of the street. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Prohibit parking along the north and east sides of Wilder Boulevard and Cervantes Drive (from Thackeray Drive south and east to the circle radius) within the Bentwood Subdivision 3rd Addition. 2. Do nothing.
