HomeMy WebLinkAboutA003 - Letter from Oak to Riverside Neighborhood Association dated October 24, 1997, additional signatures October 24, 1997 To: Ames City Council Members and Mayor From: Jeanette Smithson, Chairperson, Oak to Riverside Neighborhood Assoc. Subject: Rezoning of the three half blocks from Oak to Russell on the north side of Lincoln Way. The rezoning of the above described area will come before council on Tuesday, October 28, 1997. At the Planning and Zoning Meeting on Wednesday, October 15, 1997 we heard the first opposition during this five month process. One of the objections was that the petition we sent you on your September 26, 1997 was not valid because most of the signees were not going to be affected by the down zoning to R-2. We have continued to collect signatures because we knew that there were others in the neighborhood who very much wanted to sign the petition. We have continued for this reason and we wanted to be sure everyone, as near as possible, was informed. I have attached copies of the additional names added since your original list. Also, I have included a map indicating in red where these residents who signed live. The uncolored, indicates for the most part, people who we were unable to contact. I only heard of one resident that did not wish to sign. As you know, the effect of the down zoning will impact more than just the area that legally has to be notified. Considerable thought and effort have gone into the LUPP and this commensurate R-2 zoning proposal. Change usually means "some give and take" on everyone's part. The R1-6 Oak to Riverside Neighborhood agreed to accept increased density of one and two family density in the LUPP and the proposed R-2 zoning. It seems reasonable and fair that the R-3 and R-4 area give some slack so the new LUPP one and two family density can be a long term reality . Please continue to help us preserve the safety and quality of life in our Oak to Riverside Neighborhood. H.
