MARKLEY 'kx"'•` ' NEVADA IOWA 50201--2087 LAURAL A. COX August 22, 1997 Larry R. Curtis, Mayor Ames City Council Members 515 Clark Ave. Ames, IA 50010 Honorable Mayor and Council Members; It has been brought to my attention that the Ames City Council is considering an ordinance that would eliminate parking on Hyland Ave. When you consider this ordinance please keep in mind that the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship located at 1015 N. Hyland Ave. is used as a voting location and if, Hyland Ave. is specified as no parking it would cause a hardship for the voters. Is there a possibility of making the area around the Fellowship exempt on election days to allow for voter parking only? When Hyland Ave. was closed in 1996, we had a difficult time finding an alternative location. After much discussion, we were able to use an alternative site with the understanding it was temporary and we would pay a person from their establishment to be there when we used their facility. Our statistic's show the following number of residents vote at the Unitarian Fellowship: November 1996 = 917; September 1996 = 152; June 1996 = 278 November 1995 = 423; September 1995 = 183 November 1994 = 856; September 1994 = 143; June 1994 = 445 November 1993 = 348; September 1993 = 181 Thank you in advance for your consideration in this matter. Please call me if you have any question. Sincerely, y R. mmons
