HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Increasing Fines for Unauthorized Parking in Handicap Spaces ORDINANCE NO. 3 4 4 5 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA,BY REPEALING SUBSECTION 18.7(1)OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE AND ENACTING A NEW SUBSECTION 18.7(l)FOR THE PURPOSE OF BRINGING THE FINE FOR HANDICAP PARKING VIOLATIONS INTO COMPLIANCE WITH STATE LAW; REPEALING ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT;PROVIDING A PENALTY;AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ENACTED,by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa,that: Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be and the same is hereby amended by repealing Subsection 18.7(l)and enacting a new Subsection 18.7(l) as follows: ,,G) Any violation of any parking regulations of this chapter,may be charged by placing a notice of violation envelope on the vehicle so parked. The amount payable for violation of 18.28 (overtime parking)shall be three dollars($3.00)if paid within seven(7)days of the date of violation; five($5.00)dollars if paid from eight(8)to thirty(30)days after the date of violation;and ten($10.00) dollars if paid after thirty(30)days. The amount payable for violation of Sec. 18.18(1)(handicapped parking)shall be one hundred dollars($100.00). The amount payable for all other parking violations shall be five dollars($5.00)if paid within thirty(30)days after the date of violation;and ten dollars ($10.00)if paid after thirty days.. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed$100 or by imprisonment not to exceed 30 days. Section Three. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict,if any. Section Four.
