HomeMy WebLinkAboutA002 - Council Action Form dated May 27, 1997 0 F Item # CA "1 Date: May 27 19 7 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: SETTING PUBLIC HEARING DATE FOR DISPOSAL OF EXCESS PROPERTY AT GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER AVENUE AND BLOOMINGTON ROAD. BACKGROUND: In November of 1995, Council took action to initiate the transfer of a parcel of excess right-of-way in the area of Bloomington Road and George Washington Carver Avenue. Please note the attached Council Action Form from that time. Since that time, staff has had an appraisal undertaken that affixed the value of the land at $28,400. The developers of the adjacent Northridge Development have agreed to that price. In addition, the zoning changes which were to be part of the land transfer have taken place. As a part of the Somerset Subdivision developers agreement the City has agreed to contribute the $28,400 for the development of the parks and open spaces within the Somerset development. It is necessary to actually receive the payment for the land from the Northridge Developers and then process payment to the Somerset Developers since the members of the groups do not exactly coincide. Staff will be working with the Somerset Developers to determine the timing of the payment to the developers so that it coincides with the establishment of the parks and open spaces. In order to accomplish the transfer, a public hearing is needed. ALTERNATIVES: 1 . Set June 10, 1997 as the date for the public hearing on the disposal of excess right-of-way at the intersection of George Washington Carver Avenue and Bloomington Road. 2. Reject the concept of disposing of the property and retain it. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council establish June 10, 1997 as the date of public hearing on the disposal of excess right-of-way at the intersection of Bloomington Road and George Washington Carver Avenue.
