AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF
AMES,IOWA,BY REPEALING SUBSECTIONS 18.17(1)AND (10)AS THEY
NOW EXIST AND ENACTING NEW SUBSECTIONS 18.17(1)AND (10)FOR
THE PURPOSE OF PROHIBITING PARKING OF VEHICLES IN A MANNER
SO AS TO OBSTRUCT A SIDEWALK AND PROHIBITING PARKING ON THE
UNIMPROVED PORTION OF ANY STREET WHERE CURBING HAS BEEN
INSTALLED OR UPON THAT PORTION OF A DRIVEWAY WITHIN THE
LIMITS OF THE STREET;REPEALING ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES OR
PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH
CONFLICT;AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BI, IT ENACTED,by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa,that:
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be and the same is hereby amended by
repealing Subsections 18.17(I)and(10)as they now exist and enacting new Subsection 18.17(1)and(10)as follows:
,V) on,over or so as to obstruct a sidewalk,except that vehicles parked in conformance
with Sec. 18.10(2)(a)may partially overhang a sidewalk.

(10) upon the unimproved portion of any street where curbing has been installed, or upon that
portion of any driveway which is within the limits of the street,except where an encroachment permit has been granted.

Section Two. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a simple misdemeanor punishable
by a line not to exceed$100 or by imprisonment not to exceed 30 days.
Section Three. All ordinances or pats of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such
conflict, if any.
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as
required by law.
