Dear Mayor,
As a follow-up to the letters from the tenants of Main Street Station,Hubbell Realty
Company, as agent for Main Street Station Limited Partnership,requests that the Ames City
Council change the parking regulations of the lot west of the Garden Cafe(the previous
gravel parking lot).
The Ames Depot Development Agreement in Article 11, "Parking", states"The city shall
not...permit longer than three(3)hour parking in the Parking Area. The Developer may, from
time to time, request a change in the regulations established by the City for the Parking Area,
but any change requested by the Developer shall be consistent with the use of the Parking
Area for the parking of motor vehicles by the general public."
We request that the Ames City Council change the parking regulations to not permit longer
than 12 hour maximum parking, 24 hours a day in the west parking lot only at the Main Street
Station(west of the Garden Cafe restaurant). This change would allow employees in the area
to park in one area throughout the day, while customers would enjoy the three hour parking in
the central and east parking areas. This change would also allow employees who have to
work early morning shifts(i.e. morning restaurant preparation)to park in the safety of a
parking lot before 6 a.m. without being ticketed.
Thank you for your consideration of this needed change. As evidenced by the numerous
letters from our tenants,this change in the parking regulations would make doing business in
the Main Street Station and downtown Ames more desirable. Please call me at 515-280-2008
if you have any questions. Also,please let me know when this item could be on the Council
agenda, so I can present our position.
We understand, as do our tenants,that this change in parking regulations will allow anyone to
park in the lot up to 12 hours,but we feel that this change is in the best interests of the
downtown business district.
