A002 - Resident letters regarding parking sign changes on Pearson Avenue and Greeley Street
Emerson and Phyllis Seim 2100 Greeley Street Ames, IA 50014-7020 515-292-7467 April 24, 1996 Scott Logan, Traffic Engineer Re: Your April 17, 1996 letter regarding"Proposed Parking Sign Changes on Pearson Avenue and Greeley Street" We live at 2100 Greeley Street and would like to express our thoughts about the parking needs of this area. We consider alternate-side parking a necessary restriction to assure the following: 1. Access of fire, safety and service vehicles. 2. Safe passage of two-way traffic. 3. Snow removal to clear full width of roadway. 4. Street cleaning as required. 5. Prevention of vehicle long-term `storage' parking. Additional factors and thoughts: 1. Realistically, street parking is required because residents of group housing(sororities and fraternities) do not have sufficient off-street parking. 2. A time window for alternation(Le. vehicle moves) should be set for convenience and effectiveness. 3. The six hour limit has little effect on total parking requirements. Suggestion: 1. Allow an alternation window from 10 PM until 1 AM with parking on both sides. 2. Strictly enforce regulations to the extent of towing cars in violation. 3. Permanent no parking restriction at visual choke-points such as the west side of Pearson at Sunset intersection and north side of Greeley at Beach intersection. EAST/NORTH WEST/SOUTH NO PARKING NO PARKING TUE;THU;SAT;SUN MON;WED;FRI 1 AM to 10 PM 1 AM to 10 PM This would remove the ambiguity of"midnight". It will permit a window for alternation of vehicles from one side to the other. It will assure a 21 hour period of one-side-only parking during peak traffic periods.
