I ORDINANCE NO. 338 I -
Baggage
An ordinance prohibiting any person, firm i'�
)�or corporation, within the limits of the City
c, of. Ames, from engaging in the business of •-
i transferring or carrying for hire trunks and
other personal baggage withbut first having
j .. obtained a license therefor from the. City f
Clerk. Providing for the filing of an indem-!
1 pity bond, for the issuance of checks to the
owners of such baggage. Establishing maxi-
mum charges for the hauling of such bag-
I gage. And specifying punishment for a vio-
lation of its provisions.
Be it ordained,by the City Council of the i
City of Ames, Iowa.
Section 1. That it shall be unlawful for
. any person, firm or corporation, within the - -
;II limit. of the City of Ames, to engage in
the business of transferring or carrying for �! i
hire trunks, snit cases, grips or other personal -
baggage without first procuring from the city
clerk a license therefor and otherwise com-
plying with the provisions of this ordinance. _
Section 2. No license shall be issued until
the applicant therefor shall file with the
city clerk a bond in the penal sum of Five _
Hundred Dollars with one or more sureties is
thereon, to be appoved ay said clerk, con-
: ditioned that the licensee will pay to the _ s
owner of any trunk or other personal bag- - -
gage, lost, damaged or injued while in such
licensee's possession or custody, the value
of the same or the amount of such damage ✓ C"„f'
...or injury.
Section 3. The license shall be issued by
the city clerk and the fees therefor shall be , r
as follows: the sum of twenty-five dollars forte--'-
the first wagon, truck or other conveyance, C
�•- ,,,,,f.
the sum of five_dollars for.the second truck,
wagon.or,other conveyance belonging to the
same.-.person._..firm:-on,corporation, and the
sum of two dollars for each wagon, truck or l
other conveyance thereafter. No license Shall I,
be issued for less than fhe term of one
year.
Section 4. Any person, firm or corporn-
tion obtaining a license as hereinbefore pro-
vided, shall procure for use in the said busi-
ness, metal or cardboard checks, which shall
be numbered, and have the name of the licen-
yk see printed thereon. And it shall be unlaw-
ful for any such licensee to take into his pos-
session or custody any trunk or other' per-
sonal baggage without delivery to the owner
t thereof one of said-.checks.
Sections. The city clerk shall provide
numbered metal-license plates, which shall be
issued with and the licensee
shall attach sand-Plate in a conspicuous place
on each vehicle he uses in the said business.
Section 8. It shall be unlawful for any
person, firm or corporation, .obtaining a li-
cense under the provisions of this ordinance I-
M.charge in excess of the folloiving fees: _.
For the period of three days immediately be-
fore and after the opening and closing of I

college fifty cents for transferring trunks or k
f other baggage from the depots to the Fourth}: -
ward or any other part of the city. L
Section i. This ordinance shall be in full
force and effect after its passage and publi-,
cation as provided by statute.
Section 8. All ordinances or parts thereof
in conflict herewith are repealed.
Section 9. Any person, firm or corpora- '
tion violating any provision of this ordinance
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and
upon conviction thereof shall be fined in a`.
' sum not exceeding one hundred dollars; with -
i the costs of the prosecution, and in default
of payment may be committed to the city
or county,jail until such fine and costs are
