Re: Changing the "O'Neil Drive" street name and adding an "East" prefix
Dear Residents:
During the past several months, staff has discussed street name changes with residents
in the "Riverside Drive - Oak Avenue" residential area. Residents had requested that a
"north" prefix be added to the street names in their area to help clarify their location.
According to these residents, this "north" prefix would resolve frequent problems with
delivery personnel and visitors who had difficulty finding their homes. Because of their
problems, City Council approved their request to change the street name.
Subsequently, while discussing the street name issue, it was discovered that similar
problems may be experienced by residents on O'Neil Drive. Typically, street names in the
City are either given an "East" or "North" prefix when the street extends east or north of
Duff Avenue and/or Lincoln Way, respectively. However, the east "O'Neil Drive" street
section does not have an "East" prefix though it does extend east of Duff Avenue.
In order to evaluate whether the street name should be changed on your street by
addina an "East" prefix I would like to receive YOUr comments about this m.eacuire.
Please feel free to either write, or contact me at 239-5275 to discuss this issue. I will
tentatively schedule presentation of this issue to the Ames City Council during their
January 9, 1996 meeting. If this measure is supported by residents, I will place it on
Council agenda for this meeting.
Sincerely,
D- 1 I L- Scott Logan, P.E.
