To the Mayor and Council:
Although I am unable to be present at tonight's meeting, I wanted to write
and express my opposition to the rezoning of properties located at 115 East
I lth Street, 121 East 1lth Street, 1103 Carroll Avenue,and 1107 Carroll
Avenue.
I hope the Council will carefully consider the following issues:
1.The impact on affordable (low and moderate price) housing. I
understand that the applicant has meant the criteria for demolition of
housing. The inability to move this housing stock shows the impossibility
of saving this housing stock except on its original site. Any loss of housing
stock in this price range is significant.
2.The impact on the stability of the neighborhood. We cannot really
seriously talk about conserving affordable (low and moderate price)
housing without talking about conserving the stability of neighborhoods.
3. The impact of bringing traffic into the neighborhood interior. This is a
serious issue with regard to moving traffic onto Carroll instead of Duff. I
hope careful consideration has been given to what this means for the
neighborhood and how increased traffic will be handled. This issue has
consequences for the stability of the neighborhood.
Neighborhood people can only ask why this "sprawl" is allowed to
continue.
Sincerely,
Mary Terpstra
