HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated January 24, 1995 i` Item # /C;2— Date: January 24, 1995 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: SNOW ROUTE DESIGNATIONS ON EMERALD DRIVE FROM GARDEN ROAD TO KEN MARIL BACKGROUND: City crews have had difficulty removing snow along Emerald Drive from Garden Road to Ken Maril Road due to the presence of parked vehicles. When parking is present after snowfalls, accumulations remain near these vehicles and contribute to hazardous conditions for vehicular and bus traffic. This problem is alleviated on streets designated as snow routes, since vehicles are moved when the street is plowed. With this designation, vehicles must be moved only when a "snow emergency" is declared, and until the street is cleared. Emerald Drive should also be designated as a snow route since it is used as a Cy-Ride route. Typically, all streets with bus routes have been designated as snow routes to ensure bus service. Currently, the section of Emerald Drive from Jewel Drive to Garden Road has been designated as a "Snow Route". However, the section between Garden Road and Ken Maril Road has not been designated. By including the remainder of Emerald Drive, the entire section will be designated as a snow route. Staff has notified the residents along Emerald Drive about this measure. No concerns have been received from these residents. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Designate a snow route along Emerald Drive from Garden Road to Ken Maril Road. 2. Do nothing. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt alternative number 1, thereby directing the City Attorney to draft an ordinance designating a snow route along Emerald Drive from Garden Road to Ken Maril Road COUNCIL ACTION:
