HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated January 10, 1995 ITEM # J 7
DATE: January 10 1995
SUBJECT: Request approval for changes in Chapter 32, Mechanical Code of the City
of Ames Municipal Code.
BACKGROUND:
April 1, 1993, the local mechanical code went into effect. At that time, the 1991 Uniform
Mechanical Code was adopted and some amendments were made. Other amendments
were also made since then. Now, after months of careful review and a public hearing,
the Mechanical Board of Appeals is proposing that the City Council adopt the 1994
Uniform Mechanical Code.
Attached is the proposed Chapter 32 of the Ames Municipal Code which refers to
adopting the 1994 Uniform Mechanical Code and its local amendments. All of the
changes relate to numbering changes , clarity in wording, and uniformity in wording with
the local building, electrical and plumbing codes. There was no opposition to any
changes at the public hearing.
It has been mentioned previously about requiring local licensing for mechanical
contractors. The state is currently looking into state licensing for mechanical and
plumbing contractors, therefore, the Board has opted to wait to see what happens at the
state level before initiating a local requirement.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Approve the changes as submitted for your consideration.
2. Deny the request.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt Alternative #1
granting the submitted changes..
