AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF
AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING AND RE-ENACTING SUBSECTION
5.108(3) FOR THE PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHING INSPECTION REQUIRE-
MENTS PERTAINING TO SUBGRADE WALLS; REPEALING ALL ORDI-
NANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; ESTABLISHING A PENALTY AND
SETTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa:
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa is hereby amend-
ed by repealing subsection 5.108(3) and re-enacting the same as follows:
11(3) Required Inspections. Reinforcing steel or structural framework of
any part of any building or structure shall not be covered or
concealed without first obtaining the approval of the Building
Official.
The Building Official, upon notification from the permit holder or
his agent, shall make the following inspections and shall either
approve that portion of the construction as completed or shall
notify the permit holder or his agent wherein the same fails to
comply with this Code.
(a) Foundation Footing Inspection. To be made after trenches
are excavated and forms erected and when all materials for the
foundation are delivered on the job. Where concrete from a
central mixing plant (commonly termed "transit mixed") is to
be used, concrete need not be on the job.
(b) Frame Inspection. To be made after the roof, all framing,
fire-blocking, and bracing are in place and all pipes, chim-
neys, and vents are complete, and electrical, plumbing and
mechanical rough inspections have been made.
(c) Final Inspection. To be made after building is completed and
ready for occupancy. Plumbing, mechanical and electrical
finals will be called prior to or in conjunction with a final
inspection.
(d) Foundation Wall Inspections:
(i) Concrete - cast in place - to be made when forms erect-
ed and all steel in place and all materials on the job.
Where concrete from a central mixing plant is to be used,
concrete need not be on the job.
(ii) Masonry - to be made when block is in place as per
code, and all steel is in place and all materials on the
job. Where grout from a central mixing plant is to be
used, grout need not be on the job.
(iii) Wood - to be made when wood is erected and skin is in
place and all materials are on the job."
Section Two. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute
a municipal infraction, punishable as set out in Section 1.9, Ames Municipal Code.
Section Three. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
shall be repealed to the extent of such conflict if any.
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and publication as required by law.
