HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated October 11, 1994 Item # c;Z7 Date: October 11,1994 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: RENAMING R-50 AS DR. GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER AVENUE BACKGROUND: In June of this year, the City Council approved the concept of renaming County Road R-50 from Stange Road to Bloomington Road as Dr. George Washington Carver Boulevard, subject to concurrence of Story County since a portion of the right-of-way falls under the County's jurisdiction. The Board of Supervisors has recently approved the renaming of the roadway. This item is being brought back to Council for final action since only the concept was previously approved. In addition, staff would like the name changed to Dr. George Washington Carver Avenue rather than using boulevard, since avenue more closely fits the character of the facility and the City's naming pattern. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Adopt an ordinance renaming the section of R-50 from Stange Road to Bloomington Road as Dr. George Washington Carver Avenue. 2. Reject the name change request. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt Alternative #1, adopting an ordinance renaming R-50 from Stange Road to Bloomington Road as Dr. George Washington Carver Avenue.
