HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated September 13, 1994 ITEM #: DATE: 09/13/94 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: Ordinance Prohibiting Certain Types of Vehicles from Parking in the Designated Freight Delivery Areas. BACKGROUND: The City of Ames has designated four (4) truck delivery zones in Campustown to keep deliveries off from the newly designed Welch Avenue in Campustown. The delivery zones are in affect from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday - Saturday. Any other time, the spaces are open for any vehicle parking. To enable the larger commercial trucks to have exclusive use of these areas, as was intended during delivery periods, enforcement personnel need a narrower description of prohibited vehicles in freight delivery areas. This ordinance will enable law enforcement personnel the ability to quickly distinguish improper vehicles and to act appropriately to ensure the space is open for delivery vehicles to Campustown merchants. The truck delivery zones are already designated as tow away zones and will remain so. ALTERNATIVES: 1. The City Council can approve the new ordinance prohibiting certain types of vehicles from parking in the designated freight delivery area, repealing all ordinances in conflict and establishing a penalty and setting an effective date. 2. The City Council can deny the new ordinance prohibiting certain types of vehicles from parking in the designated freight delivery area, repealing all ordinances in conflict and establishing a penalty and setting an effective date. 3. The City Council can amend the proposed ordinance. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt Alternative #1. This action will allow enforcement of non-delivery vehicles parking in delivery zones which prohibits truck delivery for merchants in Campustown. COUNCIL ACTION: c\mr\misc94\campstwn.829
