HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Adding Exceptions to Noise Ordinance ORDINANCE NO. 3292 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTION. 16.8 THEREOF AND RE-ENACT- ING THE SAME REVISED TO ADD AN EXCEPTION FOR AUTHORIZED ACTIVITIES OCCURRING ON GOVERNMENT PROPERTY; PROVIDING A PENALTY AND SETTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa: Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa is hereby amend- ed by repealing Section 16.8 and re-enacting the same revised to read as follows: "Sec. 16.8. EXCEPTIONS. The requirements, prohibitions and terms of this chapter shall not apply to emergency work or to any authorized emergency vehicle, when responding to an emergency call or acting in time of emergency. The terms of this section shall not apply to those activities of a temporary duration, permitted by law and for which a license or permit therefor has been granted by the city, including but not limited to parades, fireworks displays, the outdoor warning system, and all other authorized activities occurring on government property. Also excepted are nonprofessional athletic contests and all construction work." Section Two. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $100 or by imprisonment for not more than 30 days. Section Three. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith shall be repealed to the extent of such conflict if any. Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as required by law. Passed this 8th day of September 1994. t.tA Sandra L.
