HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated July 12, 1994 cP 1 COUNCIL ACTION FORM Item # Date: July 12 994 SUBJECT: Designating Parking Prohibitions in the Bentwood Subdivision First Addition BACKGROUND: During the review of Bentwood Subdivision First Addition, staff indicated to developers that parking prohibitions should be designated along one side of subdivision streets. This measure is needed to provide a safe street width for passage of local traffic and emergency vehicles. Streets included in this subdivision are Wilder Boulevard, Schubert Street, Norris Street, and Frost Drive. Staff had determined that parking prohibitions are necessary since subdivision plans call for 27' and 31' street widths. With these widths, parking prohibitions are needed to provide a two-way traffic flow. With parking present on both sides of the street, the available street width for traffic is reduced to 15', or one lane of travel. When this parking is present, it not only creates a hazardous situation for traffic, but also restricts access by emergency vehicles. The developers, Hunziker and Furman, requested that parking prohibitions be designated along the north and east sides of Wilder Boulevard, Schubert Street, Norris Street, and Frost Drive. In addition, parking prohibitions are proposed on both sides of Wilder Boulevard between Lincoln Way and Schubert Street. This prohibition is needed to provide sufficient street width for the additional traffic lanes on Wilder at the Lincoln Way intersection. Attached is a diagram showing the location of these proposed parking prohibitions. ALTERNATIVES: 1 . Designate parking restrictions in the Bentwood Subdivision First Addition as follows: along the east side of Wilder Boulevard, and on the north and east sides of Frost Drive (from Wilder to the cul-da-sac), Schubert (from the east end to the cul-da-sac), and Norris Street (from the west end to the cul-da-sac). In addition, parking prohibitions would be designated along both sides of Wilder Boulevard from Lincoln Way to Schubert Street. 2. Modify the proposed locations of the prohibitions 3.
