Re : Truck parking and unloading on Chamberlain Place
alley
Dear Council :
We do not support the Plan "B" proposal of a 55' truck
delivery zone for the following reasons :
1) The alley is too narrow and anytime a truck is
parked there it completely blocks the alley. The
narrow width will not allow another vehicle to
drive around the parked truck.
2) The entire alley length is currently utilized by
drive ways or parking lots . Plan "B" proposes a
55, delivery parking zone (up to 2 hours in time
maximum) . Some of the delivery trucks are 65' in
length. Also note that there is no 55' clear zone
in the entire alley which does not block someone' s
parking lot or driveway.
3) Plan "B" does in fact completely block (up to 2
hours maximum) the parking lot of a residence
located at 2520 Chamberlain (across the alley from
DaVinci' s) . This parking lot has a capacity of 4
cars . It is not fair to allow trucks delivery to
DaVinci' s or Pizza Pit to block a home at 2520
Chamberlain.
4) Truck parking does now exist on Chamberlain Street,
Hayward Avenue, and Hunt Street . We as an active
business firm are willing to unload our trucks from
any of the above locations and transport the items
up the alley.
5) The proposed delivery zone will block our primary
emergency fire access . The 150' distance from our
warehouse to Chamberlain Street has been declared a
critical minimum distance to fire hydrants .
6) Trucks parked in the proposed delivery zone will
force all traffic in the alley to exit south (on a
gravel surface) on to Hunt Street . Most of
exiting traffic is of a commercial nature in direct
conflict to Hunt Street which is generally a
residential zone .
Summation:
No truck parking or deliveries should be allowed on the
alley. Free access and eggress is needed to the interior of
this block.
I would support a proposal to designate additional
truck parking on Chamberlain if needed.
Sincere y,
Scott E. Randall
