Re: Parked vehicles (unloading) in public right of way
Dear Scott:
I am requesting that you formally prohibit parking or
"double parking" on City of Ames streets or alleys (public
right of ways) .
The problem in particular we have is trouble parking in
front of our business warehouse at 211 Chamberlain Place.
The narrow width (161 ) allows only 1 -ehicle to pass at a
time. Often times we are prohibited access to our property
by trucks parking and unloading in the alley. The important
point to recognize is that the alley is our primary and sole
access to our business.
The businesses taking deliveries are DaVincils, 2514
Chamberlain and Pizza Pit, 207 1/2 Welch. Both of these
businesses have primary access on either Chamberlain or
Welch Avenue.
Current city police enforcement policy is if a truck is
unloading, they may park about anywhere for an indefinite
period of time.
I propose the following:
- parking on public right of way --o unload be limited
to the alley or street directlti adjacent to the
property taking the delivery.
F
- unloading will not exceed 10 minutes.
- completely blocking vehicular passage on the public
right of way is prohibited.
- $50. 00 fine per occurrence.
Thank-you.
Sincerely,
Scott E. Randall
