HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Letter dated March 3, 1993 from Meeker Elementary School to Traffic Engineer Meeker Elementary School Mr. Scott Logan 515 Clark Street Ames, Iowa 50010 March 3, 1993 Dear Mr. Logan, There are several Meeker parents who have brought a concern for children's safety at the crossing of 20th street and Kellogg to the attention of the Meeker PTA. The speed rate of vehicles in this area, without traffic control devices, is often excessive. This has generated considerable support from the Meeker Parent-Teacher Association for something to be done at the 20th Street and Kellogg crossing. In light of the traffic studies conducted in the area and incidents of accidents, the lowering of the speed limit to 20 miles per hour and the addition of a flashing light, would be acceptable. The following time schedule is offered to assist you in coordinating the reduction of the speed limit to 20 miles per hour with the school day: 8:30 Start of the school day 11:15-12:35 Kindergarten dismissal Noon Hour 3:15 School dismissal (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) 2:00 Early dismissals for staff development on Wednesdays The posting of the 20 mile per hour speed limit during pedestrian hours should be strategically placed in advance of Kellogg to the west and to the east. I remain available to supply any additional assistance if it is needed.
