HomeMy WebLinkAboutA002 - Letter dated February 3, 1993 to Cindy Wahl from Traffic Engineer AMES CITY OF AMES -------------------------- ------------------- P.O. BOX 811 AMES IOWA 50010 Community-University-Opportunity Public Works Department 515 Clark Avenue 515-239-5160 February 3, 1993 Cindy Wahl 406 Faulkner Court Ames, IA. 50010 Dear Ms. Wahl: w City staff will be proposing to City Council that parking be restricted on one side of Raphael Avenue and Sinclair Avenue to provide a safe street width for passage of local traffic and emergency vehicles. Also, due to the generated traffic vol- umes from the new development on these streets, parking prohibitions are needed to accommodate the additional traffic flow along these streets. Attached is a diagram showing the proposed location of these restrictions on Raphael Avenue and Sinclair Avenue. Currently, these streets have a 30' width that is adequate for two traffic lanes if parking is restricted on one side. With parking present on both sides of the street, the available street width for traffic is reduced to 15', or one lane of travel. When this occurs, it not only presents a hazardous situation for traffic, but also restricts access of emergency vehicles which require passage widths of 20'. This proposal will be considered by City Council at the February 23rd meeting. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 239-5275. Sincerely, Scott Logan P.
