HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Electrical Code Changes ELECTRICAL CODE CHANGES The Interim Electrical Code Board of Appeals reviewed and updated the electrical code. We wish to thank the members who participated, Dan Krogman, Jon Diller and Ted Schmitt. The following changes were made to the electrical code: Sec. 7.101(2)(e) This section was added to install a sign on the electric panel to warn the electrician that another means of grounding is required because of the use of plastic water service in lieu of copper. Sec. 7.201(3) Changed to allow master electricians to be the only one at the company to take out permits. Sec. 7.302 A few sentences were added "conditions for registration" and the section was renumbered accordingly. Sec. 7.302(2)(f) The Exemption was added to allow a registrant who is the property owner to show proof of general liability insurance in the amount of $500,000in lieu of contractor's commercial general liability insurance and to waive the state registration under these conditions. The last paragraph was changed by adding that each registrant report to the inspection office to register each year to avoid ghost contractors. Sec. 7.303(2) Add sentence that gives Board ability to approve applications if inspector questions applicants qualifications. Sec. 7.401 Created a member ex officio from the Building Code Board of Appeals as a nonvoting member. Changed the wording for clarity and opened position of board member to include someone in electrical profession as well as electricians. Added "Only one employee, representative, or associate per business or firm shall be on the Board at a time." The staff recommends the Council adopt these changes to Chapter 7 - Electrical Code.
