HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Setting Standards for Street Paving, Required for Approval of Subdivision Plats ORDINANCE NO. 3171 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 23.22 OF THE AMES MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING A NEW SUBSECTION TO SET STANDARDS FOR STREET PAVING REQUIRED FOR APPROVAL OF SUBDIVISION PLATS; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ENACTED, by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa: Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be and the same is hereby amended by adding to Section 23.22 thereof a new subsection as follows: "(14) Street Paving Standards. Streets shall be paved to the following standard: (a) local streets with an estimated daily traffic of less than 750 vehicles shall have a surface of not less than 8" of asphalt or 62" of portland cement concrete. (b) local streets with an estimated daily traffic of between 750 and 2000 vehicles per day shall have a surface of not less than 9" of asphalt or 7" of portland cement concrete. (c) collector streets with an estimated daily traffic of between 2000 and 5000 vehicles per day shall have a surface of not less than 92" of asphalt or 72" of portland cement concrete. Subase rock and subdrains shall be added if, in the judgment of the City's engineer, water and soil conditions indicate the need. (d) collector streets with an estimated daily traffic of between 5000 and 10,000 vehicles per day shall have surface of not less than 10" of asphalt or 8" of portland cement concrete, with subase rock and subdrains. (e) Arterial streets with an estimated daily traffic of more than 10,000 vehicles shall have a surface of not less than 11" of asphalt or 9" of. portland cement concrete, with subase rock and subdrains. Estimate daily traffic shall be determined by the City's engineers. Section Two. Violation of this ordinance shall constitute a municipal infraction punishable as by law provided. Section Three. Any and all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict, if any. Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as required by law. Passed this 28th day of April 1992.
