HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - letter from Dayton Heins - colleciton of grass and leaves ' . Ames Public Works * ' -' ^ 515 Clark ' - Ames IA, 50010 Dayton Heins 404 Garden Rd. Ames IA, 50010 In order to clear up any confusion that may arise as a result of leaf disposal this fall , I wish to inform the department of public works of efforts underway to collect leaves in the Ames area. For about 3 years we have collected in our half ton truck leaves from many parts of Ames. This year there are some changes in store. Many people will seek to dispose of an overabundance of leaves at the site on Riverside Drive. ' ^ Many will opt for a less costly solution. I use leaves as a soil conditioner and for weed controll . In past years I have collected more than I can use. This excess has gone to Oxford Farms, of rural Huxley and - Cambridge. They are used there as weed control . The ` current plan is to recieve more this year as well . ~ - ~ I informed the Iowa DNR of our operation and have a copy of regulations. _ To my knowlege these regulations do not apply ° ^ - to our efforts. Posted on september 28 on Blanshan Drive is a sign which states that we accept grass and leaves without chemicals- herbicides, woody stems, or trash. The restrictions are due to branches, canes and plastic found in some bags. If any of this could come into conflict with policy or procedure, I want to know, as to avoid any problems.
